This Exam Syllabus provides detailed information on what can be assessed in the exam. You can use it to plan your study. You may then rely on the training materials provided by an Authorized Training Organization to prepare yourself for the exam.

Topic 1 - Key Agile Project Management Concepts

Candidates are expected to distinguish projects and operations. They should be able to describe the meaning of project success and project failure. They should also understand how project management pursues project success. Candidates are expected to explain how projects may exist within programs and portfolios.  They should also be able to explain the agile approach, the hybrid and the conventional project approaches. Finally, they should recognize key agile events, artifacts, frameworks and concepts.

Topic 2 – Value-driven projects

Candidates should be able to explain the meaning of a value-driven approach. They should also be able to identify and explain how agile teams deliver value frequently. Candidates are expected to be familiar with the purpose of envisioning the product. They should also be able to know the various elements that may be part of a product vision. Candidates are expected to be familiar with the purpose of a business case. Candidates should be able to explain how the project manager can assess if the project remains justifiable throughout the project. They should also be able to describe how to define benefits targets and clarify the actions required to ensure the benefits are realized. Candidates should be able to describe the meaning of key agile value metrics. Candidates are expected to explain the purpose and process of authorizing the project.

Topic 3 – Agile Team

Candidates are expected to be familiar with the meaning and value of a self-managing, cross-functional, collaborating and feature-based team. They should also be able to explain how to positively influence the team’s performance, values and behaviors. Finally, candidates should have detailed knowledge of the responsibilities of each role within an agile team.

Topic 4 – Project Management Tailoring and Baselines

Candidates will be expected to explain the purpose of tailoring the management approach. They are also expected to know the various elements that may be tailored to the project context. Candidates are expected to understand the purpose of different project management baselines within an agile or hybrid project.

Topic 5 – Scope Definition and Product Backlog Refinement

Candidates should be able to explain the meaning of scope, scope management and product requirement. Candidates are expected to understand the purpose of a product backlog and a product goal. They should also understand how product backlog items can be created, refined, ordered, prioritized, and documented. Candidates should be familiar with product backlog refinement. They should also be able to understand how epics may be decomposed into user stories. They should also be able to discuss the purpose and approach of creating a common understanding of the project scope.

Topic 6 – Release Planning

Candidates should be able to suggest and explain alternative units of measurement and techniques to estimate product backlog items. Candidates should be able suggest cross-team estimation practices. Candidates should be able to explain how velocity may be used to plan releases. They should also be able to demonstrate knowledge of how to determine how the product will evolve over multiple releases. Finally, candidates should be familiar with product roadmaps.

Topic 7 – Schedule Management

Candidates should be able to explain how the schedule is developed and maintained within an agile or hybrid environment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate knowledge of agile schedule control.

Topic 8 – Quality Management

Candidates should be able to explain the meaning of quality and quality management. They should also be able to explain how to plan quality within an agile or hybrid scenario. Candidates should be familiar with agile quality management practices. Candidates should be able to distinguish quality control from quality assurance.

Topic 9 – Sprinting

Candidates should be able to explain the purpose of the sprint planning, daily scrum, sprint review, and sprint retrospective events. They should also be able to recommend alternative approaches to run these events.

Topic 10 – Communications and Stakeholders Management

Candidates should be able to explain the meaning of communication and communication management. They should also be able to discuss an approach to clarify and fulfill communication requirements within an agile or hybrid environment. Candidates should be able to distinguish different stakeholders. They should also be able to explain how the project manager can identify, assess, and engage stakeholders.

Topic 11 – Risk Management

Candidates should be able to explain the meaning of risk and risk management. Candidates should be able to explain the purpose of defining the risk management approach. They should also demonstrate knowledge of risk identification, risk assessment, risk response planning and risk monitoring. Candidates should be able to suggest agile practices to mitigate project risk.

Topic 12 – Progress Tracking

Candidates should be able to explain the meaning of monitoring progress within an agile context. Candidates should be able to use different artifacts to track the progress of agile teams. They should also be able to suggest metrics to track progress. Candidates should be able to explain how to track benefits. They should also understand the meaning of project changes with an agile context and the purpose of a change control system.
